1.5 Measurement and Evaluation

Teachers in Universidad De. Sta. Isabel usually use formative test in evaluate students’ understanding. For the test, it can be paper-based, but sometimes for the final project, the assessment can be the performance test or so on. Also, teachers usually use project-based to evaluate students, while they processing to create the good team work. In brief, teachers also can assess students by seeing the students’ behavior in classroom. For example, when the students ask questions, participated in the activity, volunteering, give comments, giving opinion, discipline, daily behavior, out-class assessment, and so on. Everything that mention previously also be part of the assessment. So, teachers in USI is not only use paper as formative test (formal test), but also use the informal assessment.
Next, teachers also can evaluate students by the accomplishments of individual activity, pair activity, or group activities.
For the performance test, teachers will use rubric for evaluate the students’ performance. Then, of course, students will also know the rubric before they perform in front of the class.
Besides, the lesson plan is have to created in detail format. In purpose to help the teachers can catch or reach the goal and objectives (learning targets). For authentic measurements and evaluation, the students must reach the learning targets based on the English curriculum in Philippines.
